How Do Label Terms Fit Into
the Baking Soda Ritual?
Serving size, amount per serving, g versus mg, and %DV mean different things. Here is how to read them.
Four terms behind the numbers
Serving size?
The reference serving used for the amounts listed on the label.
Amount per serving?
The quantity listed for an ingredient in that stated serving.
Grams vs. milligrams?
One gram equals 1,000 milligrams; both are units used for mass.
What does %DV mean?
The share of an established Daily Value in one stated serving.

These general definitions draw on FDA labeling guidance and NIST unit references. They are not a review of any product formulation.
